Introducing our . . . Youth Resiliency Team

JamesChildren’s Programs

With COVID-19 in the background, Welcome Inn has developed a brand new program for high school-aged youth, and we are excited!

To address both the needs and interests of youth in our North End community, Welcome Inn has developed a new program focused on youth mental health. It’s a new program that aligns with the latest research and best practices regarding youth engagement. Our new youth program, Youth Resiliency Team, will specifically address youth mental health and mental illness through education, leadership, and peer-to-peer advocacy. Youth who join the program will receive training on positive help-seeking behaviours, stigma, managing mental health and social media, and positive strategies to achieve overall well-being. With support from Welcome Inn staff and volunteers, youth will use the training they receive to inform and develop their own mental health initiatives for their peers and their communities.
.
The Youth Resiliency Team program will create opportunities for young people, aged 14-18, to grow as leaders within the community. Youth will develop leadership and life skills, develop healthy and supportive relationships, as well as engage other youth in important discussions and initiatives related to mental health. Youth will be empowered with information, knowledge, and skills in order to be advocates for their communities. The youth program will support Welcome Inn’s larger vision of lifting and empowering community voices, so that we can all work collectively towards wellness.
