Diners Club

Every Tuesday, seniors gather at Welcome Inn to enjoy a nutritious, home-cooked meal. The room is filled with lively conversations and lots of laughter. Following the meal, there is an afternoon program that includes live music, guest speakers, theme parties, cooking demonstrations, dancing, slideshows, and much more. It’s always something different, and it’s always a lot of fun! The best thing about Diners Club is the friendships that are formed and the encouragement that can be offered by those sitting around our tables. Seniors often comment that this group started out as a fun outing, but has somehow come to feel more like a family.

Community Visitation Program

Welcome Inn Community Centre is committed to supporting seniors to age well in their own homes and neighbourhoods. The Community Visitation Program connects isolated seniors with trained volunteers to offer friendship and support on a regular basis. Visits include a walk in the neighbourhood, a coffee at a local café, playing checkers at home, or weekly friendly phone calls.

With thanks to the Government of Ontario, through the Ontario Trillium Foundation and its Resilient Communities Fund, we have been able to add a Life Navigation component to our Community Visitation efforts. The goal of the Life Navigation component is to increase the depth of support offered to seniors with more complex situations, by assisting them to navigate health care, food security, safe housing, healthy relationships, and mental health supports.

We are excited to now be able to offer increased training to our volunteer team, which in turn increases our capacity and skill base to respond to the needs of the seniors in our community.
